FDNYFirebuff2 ::: Favorites 2007-10-19 16:41:12 NICE VIDEO Why is it called a relief and why does werent there any fire fighters ride on the back __________________________________________________
thekiwicanuck ::: Favorites 2007-10-19 19:30:06 Thanks! Relief trucks are spare trucks that the crews use when their own trucks are being serviced etc. NYFD has them too, check out anesti's channel. Often wondered myself why that truck only runs with two crew. Anyone out there in the NZ Fire Service who knows? __________________________________________________
FDNYFirebuff2 ::: Favorites 2007-10-19 19:33:07 Yea i kind of figured that out i just didnt know what u used relif as a spare here we call it spare and i know what a spare is and unforunetly a lot of the FDNY rigs are using spare because the maintaice guys cant keep up etc. __________________________________________________
DHMwithTs ::: Favorites 2007-10-19 23:07:44 Do your Macks have automatic transmissions or stick? __________________________________________________
thekiwicanuck ::: Favorites 2007-10-20 03:56:31 I looked at some of my photos where this truck's doors are open, and couldn't see a manual gear lever, unless it was a column shift. Its hard to tell in the darkness of the cab. I'll listen more closely to the gearshifts next time it goes by! Not sure about the other two Macks, either. I haven't really noticed any gear changes on the Macks, so they may all be autos, but I'm no expert! Generations of my family are involved in dealing & driving Macks, but I don't know much about Macks myself! __________________________________________________
mikeMBW ::: Favorites 2007-10-20 17:02:52 Hmm, perhaps OSH have a say in the matter? Wouldn't surprise me. :D __________________________________________________
thekiwicanuck ::: Favorites 2007-10-21 16:51:34 Possibly, but they ride in the back of the open cab on Auckland 205 happily enough. __________________________________________________
qtfire ::: Favorites 2007-10-21 17:39:06 Heyum to the guy that asked why there wasnt people in the back, its got sumfing to do wif how many are assigned to crew the trucks. Most ladder Trucks In NZ are only crewed with the driver and OIC or tahts how it was when i was in the Fire Service __________________________________________________
thekiwicanuck ::: Favorites 2007-10-21 17:50:01 Interesting. I just thought it was a bit odd myself, that 205 runs with four crew, but 256 doesn't. __________________________________________________
thekiwicanuck ::: Favorites 2007-10-21 20:02:45 Figured you knew, just thought I'd explain for people who might not. 256 must need a lot of servicing, 'cause I see the Relief truck just about as much as I see 256! __________________________________________________
qtfire ::: Favorites 2007-10-21 20:13:21 its very weird,i always wondered too. Some do some dont,I know Dunedin 216 runs with 2 crew but Christchurch 214 runs with four?not sure entirely on why it is tho.Depends on whether they use the trucks as pump responders aswell i think. __________________________________________________ |
